About Jian's Dumplings Ltd
Jian's Dumplings Limited manufactures truly authentic Chinese dumplings (boiling and frying) in many different flavours. They are very different from any dumplings one might have tried in Western hemisphere Chinese restaurants as they are in the style of Northeastern China - a region famous throughout China for its dumplings - more delicate and juicy. The Company uses mainly Scottish ingredients for the fillings, which are typically chicken, prawn, pork and coriander, beef and chilli etc. By being blast frozen raw, the dumplings retain their clean, fresh taste.

Jian’s Dumplings was founded in 1998 by Jian Wang, who had arrived in Edinburgh from Northeastern China the previous year to make a new life for herself and her 12 year old son. After graduating in violin and piano from the Arts University of Jilin Province in 1982, Jian joined the family food business in her home city of Changchun. Over the following 15 years she learned her craft, specialising in regional dishes, especially jiao zi and guo tie – the type of dumplings for which the North East of China was nationally famous.

On arriving in Edinburgh, Jian began researching the food market and the following year founded her business. She began by supplying Chinese supermarkets and introduced its products to the mainstream market in 2003, immediately winning "Best New Product" awards both at ScotHot in Glasgow and at Hospitality Week at the NEC in Birmingham. Jian's Dumplings has been supplying P & O Cruise Ships and many Chinese supermarkets (currently about 12,000 dumplings per day) throughout England for the past five years.

Jian had always harboured a dream of opening her own restaurant to showcase the many classic regional dishes which she could do so well, and in 2006 opened Chop Chop in central Edinburgh. In two years the restaurant, offering dozens of Chinese dishes entirely new to the British public, has become very successful. Apart from the unique versions of meat and fish dishes, salads, soups and desserts, Chop Chop sells more than a thousand dumpling portions every month. Over 90% of the customers are local, providing ample evidence that Jian’s dumplings are very popular with the British public.

Jian's Chinese dumplings, presented to the judges in the packaging and in the three boiling flavours and the three frying flavours that are listed by Sainsbury’s, won the 2008 Scottish Food and Drink Excellence Award in the Retail (Meat) category and to cap a very good year, Chop Chop, presenting Jian’s dumplings, was judged winner of the Scotland region and second best Chinese restaurant in the U.K. in the Tsingtao Legacy of Taste Competition out of 1,700 entries.
